Amy Rainwater, co-owner of Busy B’s Boothtique and Calhoun’s Busy B’s Boothtique is the focus of today’s Small Business Snapshot.
What is the primary purpose of your business?
The primary purpose of our business is to offer affordable household items for resale to the public.
What is your business background?
Our business background consists of working retail most of our lives. We were the owners of Etowah Family Restaurant in Armuchee from 2004 to 2009. Although cooking has always been a passion of mine, “junking” has become one of my new favorites.
Why did you start this business?
The reason I wanted to start Busy B’s Boothtique was because we did not have a lot of money, and even buying used items was expensive. So my goal was to open a resale shop that people like me could afford. We may not be all glamorous but we have some great pieces, and I honestly believe the best prices in Rome, Calhoun and surrounding areas. We have some really great vendors at both locations. We are always changing and growing.
What makes your business unique?
Our business is unique for several reasons. One is because of our prices. Another one is I believe we have some awesome vendors. They really work hard to bring in what people are asking for and still be affordable for lower income families. And saying this, I do not mean we have junk or worn out pieces. We offer a wide variety of items. We have lower priced items, high end items, vintage and antiques.
We offer painted furniture along with one of the popular No Wax Chock Paints. We are happy to explain and teach you how to use the paint so you can create your own pieces. We have several pieces we have painted for sale at each location.
We love helping our customers and we strive hard on customer service. We want everyone who comes in to feel welcome and leave feeling like they are at least appreciated because everyone who enters is appreciated, and we are happy they came in to shop with us.
We are also unique because we now offer U-Haul rentals at both locations along with packing supplies. We also have retired U-Haul trucks for sale.
I just asked a couple of vendors what makes us unique, one answered that we are unique because we have unique items. She also said she had heard from customers that come in say they feel comfortable here and we are friendly. Another vendor said she heard we were very clean and that’s why customers shop here. When I asked another, she said we offered a wide selection and items with detail.
I love feedback, and I grow with everything that people give me. If your not happy with the way we are, just come see me.
What do you enjoy most as a business owner?
I enjoy the customers and the vendors working here at Busy B’s Boothtique. Both locations have some wonderful people who enter through our doors. It is more like a family here and that makes it special to me and I hope others.
What is the biggest challenge you have with running a small business?
The biggest challenge to overcome as a small business owner is advertisement. Advertisement is so expensive, it makes it very difficult to get the word out about who we are and what we do.
Is there anything else you would like to say to our readers?
I would like to invite everyone to come visit us. We rent booths, consign home decor and furniture items. We offer shelf rentals for ones that just want to clear away extras at home but do not want to just give it away.
We also accept donations during business hours of gently used items, no clothing, although some vendors do have some clothing items for sale in the store. We offer used appliances with a 30 day warranty. We do on site embroidery and offer vinyl monograms as well. You can find just about everything here under one roof! We have two Facebook pages, one for each location. Take a minute and Google us or find us on Facebook and like our page so you can see new items as they come in. We are listed as Busy B’s Boothtique for our Rome location and Calhoun’s Busy B’s Boothtique for our Calhoun location. Our Rome store is across from the old GE plant, two doors from Fred’s at 1930 Redmond Circle. Our Calhoun store is right across the street from Burger King and the Kmart shopping center, and right next door to Rite Aid at 904 S. Wall St. Both stores are over 8,000 square feet of great finds and prices. Come check us out and be your own judge, and let us know what you think about us.
Thank you for reading about our business. We hope you will share our place with your friends and family and come visit us.
