Players, a T-shirt and sports memorabilia store, 317 Broad St., will officially close Sunday.

Owner Scott Hunter said he has another full-time business and was pouring everything he had into Players without the results he had hoped.

Bryan Allen bought the store from Paul Limbaugh right after it originally moved from Arbor Place mall in Douglasville to Mount Berry Square. Hunter came on as a partner in March of last year. It was right after Hunter came on as a partner that the owners were told that the mall was not going to renew their lease and they were asked to leave the mall in April 2013.

Hunter and Allen found the space on Broad Street and were able to re-open the business, barely missing a beat, but Allen said foot traffic on Broad Street was not able to sustain the business.

“I took it over in November and tried to see what we could do,” Hunter said. “We had a couple of good days right before Christmas but overall December was pretty flat, especially compared to December at the mall last year (2012).”

The building at 317 Broad St. is owned by Carlos Naranjo of El Zarape.
