German Huhoco Group to build plant in Cartersville

A German company announced it will build a 70,000-square-foot plant in the Highland 75 Industrial Park north of Cartersville.

The Huhoco Group, which specializes in refining metal products for the automotive and residential building products industries, said on Wednesday it will create 200 jobs and invest $24 million in a new facility in Bartow County.

Sole Bartow County Commissioner Steve Taylor said the new plant would be built on a 30-acre tract next to Surya Rug on Great Valley Parkway.

“I’ve been talking with these people for about six or seven months,” Taylor said. Huhoco currently operates a facility in Mableton under the name First American Resources, where it employs around 100 people.

“Our commitment to Georgia is not only emphasized by our decision to keep jobs in the state,” said Huhoco CEO Christoph Koslowski in a news release issued by the Carterville-Bartow County Department of Economic Development. “We are excited to have found such an attractive location with a wonderful team of economic development professionals that will help us navigate the challenges (of) our ambitious project ahead.”

Taylor said Huhoco would be the fourth industry in the Highland 75 Industrial Park, joining Surya, Voestalpine and Constellium. The Beaulieu International Group has also just opened a large plant directly across the Cass-White Road from the Highland 75 Park on land formerly owned by Anheuser-Busch.

“We’re very excited for the investment and for the jobs,” Taylor said. “The biggest thing is we’re just blessed and fortunate to have a big piece of land right off the interstate.”

Increasing the speed in which manufacturers can get items to market is one of the top factors in luring prospects, he said.

Huhoco will be getting a break on county maintenance and operation taxes on the building and property on a sliding scale over a 10-year period.

The company will get a five-year abatement package for personal property, the manufacturing equipment that goes inside the plant. The company will pay Bartow County school taxes from day one.
