ROME BRAVES RECAP: Rome splits doublheader against Lakewood

  • ()

Final: Rome 3, Lakewood 1

How it happened: Down 1-0 early, Rome got on the board with an RBI single from Austin Bush in the bottom of the fourth and then pushed across two in the fifth with two outs to take the lead. Randy Ventura scored on a wild pitch before Kevin Josephina, who advanced from first to third on a pair of wild pitches, scored on a RBI single by Cristian Pache.

Final: Lakewood 2, Rome 0

How it happened: Just like in game one, Lakewood grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Darick Hall’s single to drive home a run. In the fifth, the BlueClaws made it a 2-0 game on Raul Rivas’ sacrifice fly RBI and that was enough for the win as Rome managed just three hits.

Who did what for Rome: Pache went 2 for 3 with an RBI in Game 1; Carlos Martinez went 2 for 3 in Game 1; Ventura and Josephina each finished the night with two hits and a run scored; Bush had an RBI.

On the mound: Joey Wentz (5-3) got the win in Game 1, throwing six innings and striking out eight while scattering four hits. Jon Kennedy picked up his fourth save. Rangel struck out three but allowed five hits and two earned runs for the loss in Game 2.

Next Game: Rome and Lakewood wrap up their series tonight at 7 p.m.
