WEDNESDAY’S GAME RECAP

Final: Rome 5, Augusta 0

How it happened: Rome continued its hot streak and picked up its season-high seventh win in a row as timely hitting combined with top pitching in a 5-0 shutout of Augusta and a series sweep of the visiting team. Rome scored three runs in the first, including an RBI double by Lucas Herbert. The Braves scored again in the eighth inning, when Drew Lugbauer hit an RBI triple and then scored on a single by Leudys Baez.

Who did what for Rome: The team had at least 10 hits for the sixth time in the last seven games. Herbert and Marcus Mooney each went 2 for 3. Jordan Rodgers went 2 for 4. Rome turned four double plays.

On the mound: Bryse Wilson and Jon Kennedy combined for the shutout on the mound. Wilson (8-5) got the win after he struck out six and walked two while allowing four hits over six innings. Kennedy pitched three scoreless innings for his fifth save of the season.

Next Game: Rome stays at home to welcome Asheville to State Mutual Stadium for a four-game series, starting tonight with a 7 p.m. game.
