Rome Braves

Final: Lakewood 1, Rome 0

How it happened: In what was originally Game 1 of a doubleheader, Rome was held to just three hits in a seven-inning, three-hit shutout on the final day of a rainy stay in Lakewood, New Jersey. Darick Hall hit a solo home run to open the top of the sixth to give the BlueClaws the lead. It was the only extra-base hit of the game for either team. Rain delayed the start of the game two hours, and the nightcap was postponed because of poor field conditions.

Who did what for Rome: Randy Ventura, Jordan Rodgers and recently promoted Isranel Wilson each had a hit. Friday’s game was the Rome debut for Wilson, who joined the team Thursday.

On the mound: Matt Custred (0-2) took the loss after coming on in the fifth inning. He allowed just two hits and struck out two in two innings of work. Starter Joey Wentz had six strikeouts and four walks while allowing three hits.

Next Game: Rome stays on the road with the first game of a three-game set against the Delmarva Shorebirds tonight at 7:05 p.m. in Maryland.

Radio: 99.5-FM

Next Homestand: The Braves return to State Mutual Stadium on Wednesday when they will welcome Lakewood to Rome for a series that will include a doubleheader as a make-up for Friday’s postponed second game.
