Final: Columbia 4, Rome 2
How it happened: Quinn Brodey drove in Gene Cone with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, leading the Columbia Fireflies to a 4-2 win over the Rome Braves on Friday. Matt Blackham allowed a run, but struck Bradley Keller out with runners on second and third to end the game for his eighth save of the season.
The sacrifice fly by Brodey, part of a four-run inning, broke a scoreless tie before Brandon Brosher hit a three-run double later in the inning.
Following the big inning, the Braves cut into the deficit in the bottom of the frame when Drew Lugbauer hit an RBI single, driving in Kevin Josephina. The Braves saw their comeback attempt come up short after Isranel Wilson hit an RBI single, driving in Lucas Herbert in the ninth inning to cut the Columbia lead to 4-2. Starter Gabriel Llanes (6-11) got the win, while Walter Borkovich (1-1) took the loss in relief in the South Atlantic League game.
Next Game: The Braves will continue their series against the Fireflies tonight at 6 p.m.
