The Mercy Care Foundation will host its 30th annual Wings for Mercy Ball March 23 at 6 p.m. at the St. Regis in Buckhead. Co-chaired by Mary Ellen and Scott Garrett, the evening includes dinner, dancing, live and silent auctions and entertainment by Electric Avenue, an '80s tribute band.
Scott is CEO of The Garrett Group, a marketing and communications firm he started in 1989. Mary Ellen, who Forbes magazine named to their 2018 Top Women Wealth Advisors list, is the senior vice president and managing partner of The Garrett Group at Merrill Lynch, where she started in 1984. She is also is chair of the Mercy Care Foundation board. Mary Ellen is also involved with United Way, where she serves as chair of the Tocqueville Society for United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta and is a board member for United Way Worldwide in Washington.
The Wings for Mercy Ball raises money for underfunded programs within Mercy Care, a nonprofit started by the Sisters of Mercy and serving Atlanta's homeless, uninsured and underinsured populations. It provides affordable, integrated primary care and behavioral health programs. The 2019 ball's goal is to raise $200,000 for Mercy Care's dental program.
"Mercy Care is only one of a handful of organizations in Atlanta that provide dental care to Atlanta's homeless or uninsured population," Scott said. "Medicare doesn't pay for dental procedures and most Georgians have difficulty qualifying for Medicaid, including our own patients. Dental programs like Mercy Care need our support more than ever."
Tickets are $500 per person but are limited, and sponsorships are still available. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.mercyatlanta.org/mercycareball.
