SUMMERVILLE — A 25-year-old man tried driving his white diesel truck down the railroad tracks to flee cops on Nov. 30, according to Summerville Police reports.

A driver at a crash on Highland Avenue at the Cruz Through Convenience Street around 9:24 p.m. said a white diesel pickup truck struck her vehicle and left.

As police were speaking to the driver the white diesel pickup drove back down the road in front of them. The officer motioned for the driver of the truck to stop, but they did not.

The officer jumped in his vehicle and started on a slow speed chase up and down many city streets including, Pink Dogwood, College, Maple and Selman Avenue. The chase finally went behind the West Fifth Street church of Christ and onto the railroad tracks.

“A short distance after getting onto the railroad tracks the subject drove his front end off a small bridge over a wet weather branch and became stuck,” a police report stated.

The officer arrested him without any struggle. The driver was identified as Daniel Rails, of Vicksburg, Miss.

Rails was arrested for failure to stop at stop sign, fleeing or attempting to elude officer, leaving scene of accident, open container of alcohol, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, reckless driving and wrong way on a one way street, according to jail reports.
