Gary Matthew Allen, 31, remains in the Cherokee County jail without bond on charges of murder and aggravated assault. He was formally indicted this week. He is shown here at his first court appearance in July.

Two men were indicted this week on charges related to a June 28 fight at a Canton bar that left one man dead and two others injured.

Gary Matthew Allen, 31, of Jasper was formally charged in the indictment with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated battery and one count of battery in a fight with three men at Canton Icehouse, 150 Keith Drive on the night of June 28.

Another Jasper man, Adam James Blackburn, 36, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of battery related to the fight.

Leon Paul Danzis, 45, of Hoschton died after the fight. The indictment issued Tuesday said that Danzis was beaten in the face and head by Allen, and suffered multiple fractures of his face and skull. Witnesses told WSB-TV in June that Danzis was struck in the head with a pool cue, though court records refer to fists, elbows and “an object” being used in the attack.

One of the other two men injured during the fight was Danzis’ son.

Danzis was transported to Northside Hospital Cherokee where he was later pronounced dead. After Allen’s initial court appearance in July, Danzis’ sister said her brother had been in Canton working on a construction job.

Allen remains in custody in the Cherokee County jail, while Blackburn was released from jail on $2,000 bond shortly after his arrest in July, with the condition he have no contact with Allen or the two men injured in the fight.

Before issuing the indictments against Allen and Blackburn, grand jurors heard from 45 witnesses, according to court records.
