Watch what you say on the phone at the Cobb County jail.
Police said that’s a lesson 21-year-old Shawn Palmer of Cartersville learned the hard way Wednesday.
Police said Palmer was in jail on charges of shoplifting two Google Home devices from the Walmart on Barrett Parkway in Marietta on Tuesday.
The next day, a corrections officer overheard Palmer telling someone on the phone to get the car he was driving from the impound lot and check the “gas thing area.” The officer said Palmer repeatedly stressed the importance of getting the car.
A K9 unit was sent to the impound lot, and the drug-sniffing dog immediately began scratching at the fuel door.
According to the officer, there was about an ounce each of marijuana and methamphetamine in a purple baggie there.
Before the new charges were added, Palmer could have been released on $4,070 bond, but following the new drug charges, Palmer is now ineligible for bond.
