Smyrna-based NW Metro Atlanta Habitat for Humanity will dedicate the first house of 2019 on Sunday for Atlanta Braves usher and retired butcher Olin Hanner.

The house, located at 1087 Old Bankhead Highway in Mableton, was started in December and completed on March 2.

The event, from 3 to 5 p.m., will feature the Atlanta Braves “Heavy Hitters” drumline and other Braves special guests.

The Cobb Association of Realtors and Ameris Bank sponsored two consecutive Saturday build days in February and The Gieryn Family Foundation sponsored and completed the home on March 2.

Hanner is an Atlanta native and a retired butcher who works as an usher for the Braves and the Atlanta Falcons. As a single father, he worked to pay for his only daughter attend Georgia State University for undergrad and Georgetown University for graduate school.

His dream was “to have a place for his daughter to stay when she visits that is a real home in which he owns.”

“I know it was God who raised up the idea in my spirit,” said Hanner. “I had heard about Habitat, but I never thought to look into it for myself.”

The Cobb Association of Realtors is in its second year of sponsoring a Habitat build day in Cobb County.
