Units from Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to a structure fire shortly after 9 a.m. Thursday on Juniper Mill Trace in the Bridgemill community.

Firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes to find black smoke coming from the home’s garage. According to one of the homeowners, their babysitter pulled up to see the smoke and called the homeowner, informing her of the smoke. The homeowner said she was in the kitchen and opened the garage door to find “tons” of smoke, and could also see the car was on fire. The homeowner, her mother and her three young children, ages 1, 4 and 7, were in the home when the fire occurred, but all were able to safely escape the home.

The two-story brick structure received fire, smoke and water damage, with most of the damage contained to the garage. No injuries were reported, and Juniper Mill Trace was blocked until the firefighting operation was completed. Cherokee County Fire Investigator Cheri Collett is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
