A Cobb County deputy sheriff recruit has been arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and violation of oath by a public officer.

Thomas Wayne Drake Jr.’s arrest and charges were announced just after 4 p.m. by the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office. Department spokesperson Glenn Daniel said no further details would be released, citing an “active and ongoing investigation.”

The 24-year-old Drake of Douglasville was arrested at about 10 a.m. Wednesday, according to the sheriff’s office and jail records.

“It is my expectation that our employees uphold their oath of office,” Sheriff Neil Warren said in Wednesday’s news release. “To have a former deputy sheriff recruit that willfully violated his oath and betrayed the public trust is extremely disappointing. We are working closely with prosecutors and I will see to it that this former employee is held accountable.”

Drake was being held in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on a $2,000 bond Wednesday afternoon.
