MARIETTA — Cobb residents who love kittens and cappuccinos are in for a real treat.
Java Cats Café, a Grant Park coffee shop where guests are free to play with — and even adopt — cats that roam freely through the business, has inked a three-year lease for a vacant space along Atlanta Street just off Marietta Square.
The café partners with Decatur-based no-kill shelter Paws Atlanta and has found homes for more than 200 cats since opening in March of 2016.
Guests are able to make furry friends over coffee and if they fall in love, they can adopt them and give them forever homes.
Hadyn Hilton, the shop’s 26-year-old owner, said she has always loved rescuing animals. She was sitting in a Georgia State University film class one day watching cat videos on YouTube when she stumbled across the concept of cat cafés. After giving it some thought she decided to drop out and open one of her own.
“This has really been a game changer for the adoption process,” she said. “Our customers come from all over and so many of them told us we should move to Marietta.”
She decided to expand her business and hopes to get the new location up and running sometime in May.
