The Ridgeland wrestling team was hoping for a Senior Night victory over Trion on Monday, but three forfeits proved too much to overcome as the Bulldogs pulled away late for a 45-24 victory.
After a double forfeit at 106 pounds, Henri Ambrocio (113) gave Trion an early lead with a quick pin. But Ridgeland answered with fast pins by Destin Parrish (120) and Cody Brooks (126) to give the home team a 12-6 lead.
A forfeit win by Andrew McGuire (132) would tie the score, and Trion got back-to-back pins from Dustin Thrasher (138) and Ryan Roach (145) to go back in front, 24-12.
Casey Daniel (152) rallied for a pin to pull Ridgeland six points closer, but Chandler Latham (160) outlasted Cody Davis, 9-2, to add to the Bulldogs' lead, and a pin by Cody Richardson (170) added to it as Trion went ahead 33-18 with four bouts left.
Mark McKevitt bumped to 182 got a first-period pin to earn six more points for the Panthers, but Agustin Navarro (195) and Drew Casteel (285) were awarded forfeits for Trion while there was a double forfeit at 220.
Ridgeland will head to Gilmer High School this weekend for the Area 7-AAAA tournament. The top four in each weight class will advance to the Class AAAA state sectionals where wrestlers will vie for spots in the Class AAAA state tournament, to be held in Macon Feb. 14-16.
