To say the Darlington softball team was opportunistic Thursday afternoon would be a huge understatement.

The Lady Tigers capitalized on seemingly each mistake Walker made while rolling to a 12-1 victory in Thursday’s Region 6-A game at Dar-lington.

The Lady Tigers collected just three hits overall, but took full advantage of walks and errors to roll the four-inning, run-ruled win.

Emily Thurmond had two hits including a double and drove in three runs.

Atb Budd had a single and drove in another run for the Lady Tigers, who improved to 5-3 on the season.

Darlington coach Kent Harrison praised the play of his defense following the win.

“We played an error-free game,” said Harrison. “Walker just struggled tonight.”

The struggle was real for the Walker pitcher, who issued a series of bases-loaded walks to force home runs for the Lady Tigers.

Emily Swafford was strong in the circle for Darlington.

She breezed through the first two innings, allowing no hits and no runs to set the tone for the win.

Sarah Beth Womble finished the final two innings, allowing two hits and one run.

The Lady Tigers, who advanced to the Class A Private School Elite Eight last season, are back in action today when they host Christian Heritage.

The Lady Tigers then have several key games in store next week, including visiting perennial state power Gordon Lee on Tuesday.
