Mt. Paran Christian School and the Walker School will jointly host the Region 6-A basketball tournament, which tips off at 4 p.m. on Monday.
The girls’ bracket features four of the top 10 teams in the Class A private school power rankings — No. 1 Southwest Atlanta Christian, No. 3 Darlington, No. 6 St. Francis, and No. 9 Mt. Paran — along the No. 2-ranked public school team in Gordon Lee.
Southwest Atlanta Christian and St. Francis are the top seeds from their respective subregions.
The boys’ bracket is also loaded with six of the top 15 teams in the private school power rankings: No. 1 North Cobb Christian, No. 4 Excel Christian, No. 7 Mt. Paran, No. 9 St. Francis, No. 12 Mt. Pisgah, and No. 13 Whitefield Academy.
Whitefield won the Class A state title last year, adding to the state championships they won in 2003 and 2009.
North Cobb Christian and Excel Christian are the two No. 1 seeds.
The four semifinal games will be held at Mt. Paran, starting at 4 p.m. on Friday. Mt. Paran will also host the championship games, which will be at 2 and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
There will be no third-place games as only the region champions get automatic berths in the Class A state tournaments. The rest of the 16-team fields will be filled in by wild card teams based on power ranking numbers.
Darlington’s girls will play against Whitefield at 4 p.m. Monday at Walker. Gordon Lee’s girls will take on Mt. Pisgah in their first-round game at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Mt. Paran, while Trion will play at Walker at 5:30 on Monday against the host Lady Wolverines.
Darlington is on the same side of the bracket as St. Francis, while Gordon Lee and Trion have Southwest Atlanta Christian on their side of the bracket. Trion would face SACA in Wednesday’s second round should they beat Walker.
The Gordon Lee boys will take on Fellowship Christian at 4 p.m. Monday at Mt. Paran. Trion will be in action at host Mt. Paran at 7 p.m., and Darlington will also play at 7 p.m. when they face Mt. Pisgah in a game at Walker.
Gordon Lee and Trion are on the same side of the bracket at North Cobb Christian, and the Bulldogs will face the state’s top-ranked team on Thursday should they win their first game. Darlington would draw top-seeded Excel on Wednesday with a win over Mt. Pisgah.
