The Rome High swim teams saw great success in the Northwest Georgia Regional Championship, a competitive meet that included 16 boys teams and 14 girls teams.

The Rome girls placed second with a score of 135 and the Rome boys placed third with a score of 123.

Leading the way for the Wolves were several first-place event finishers.

The team of Winston McCormick, Bogan Silvey, Carter Hightower and Grady Edmonson finished first in the 200 free relay with a state-qualifying time of 1:36.96.

The girls held it down in the same event. Caroline Finn, Emily Ann Burger, Charlynn Andrews and Christine Hostetler finished the 200 free relay with a first-place and state-qualifying time of 1:51.33.

Hostetler also claimed the only individual first-place for Rome in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:07.84.

Rome Wolves coach Joey Powers, who mentioned that his team’s skills needed dusting off after their last meet at home, saw this meet as a step in the right direction.

“(It was a) great meet. Both the girls and boys teams are making the improvements at the right time,” he said.

Securing a second-place finish for Rome in the girls 100 free event was Andrews with yet another state-qualifying time of 58.35.

The same boys group of Silvey, Hightower, McCormick and Edmonson grabbed a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:52.54.

For the girls, Finn, Hostetler, Andrews and Joy Buford also claimed third in the 200 medley relay with a state-qualifying time of 2:06.34.

Andrews placed third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:32.01.

Rome will travel to Darlington for a local match-up, along with Creekview High.

It will be Darlington’s Senior Night.
