Theresa Stevens and Courtney Lovingood were two of the top players in the area last season.

And in Tuesday’s season opener, the Rome High duo picked up where they left off.

Stevens, who was last season’s RN-T Player of the Year, scored three goals, and Lovingood, a member of the RN-T’s All-Area team, recorded five saves to help the Lady Wolves to a 4-1 victory over Dalton on Tuesday.

Lucy Lansing added a goal in the homefield victory, and Stevens had an assist.

The Lady Wolves have a pair of road games in the next six days, traveling to Gordon Central on Friday and visiting Cedartown on Tuesday.

Stevens and Lovingood are both multi-sport stars at Rome.

Lovingood recently completed her senior season as a pitcher for the Rome softball team, and made the All-Area team last fall.

Stevens is likewise a standout on the softball field, and was one of the team’s offensive catalysts this past season.

On the soccer field, Stevens scored 23 goals for the Lady Wolves last year en route to her MVP season, and Lovingood had 89 saves.
