The Rockmart High School wrestling team will enter Friday and Saturday’s traditional area championships with momentum.

That’s because last weekend, the Yellow Jackets placed second at a tournament in Darlington, finishing only behind the host Tigers.

“I was proud of the boys effort this past weekend,” head coach Drew Lindsey said. “We were missing several starters that were resting injuries or were sick and we still managed to have a strong showing.”

Jason Wolfe took first place in the 120-pound weight division and Brett Arnold won the 106-pound class.

Devon Darden (113 pounds) and Nick Forsyth (126 pounds) each finished in second place for Rockmart. Alvin Allen (285 pounds) came in third while teammates Raveen Kent (132 pounds), Marlon Morales (160 pounds) and Logan Warren (195 pounds) all came in fourth place.

Now the Yellow Jackets are turning their sights to the traditional area tournament, that is being hosted by Central-Carroll.

“The boys are excited to get to area and compete for a chance to make it to the state tournament,” Lindsey said.
