Rockmart High School took eight athletes to the Class AAA state sectionals this past Saturday to compete for a chance to earn a berth to the Class AAA state meet.
Competing at Lakewood Stadium in Atlanta for Rockmart were Raveen Kent (110 meter high hurdles, high jump), Isaiah Fincher (1600 meter run, 3200 meter run), Laney McClure (200 meter dash), Devon Philpot (high jump), Kreg Hollis (triple jump), and the 4x100 meter relay team (Tyjuan Bryant, LaJuan Wiggins, McClure and Kent).
Nelani Turner represented the Lady Jackets in the long jump event.
Competing in a sectional event that included the top finishers from four of the eight Class AAA regions in the state of Georgia, Kent placed fifth in the 110 meter hurdles, completing the event in 15.91 seconds. Kent also placed 10th in the high jump, leaping five feet, eight inches.
Philpot came in 11th in the high jump, jumping five feet, six inches. Hollis was 12th in the triple jump, covering a distance of 38 feet, 10 inches.
McClure was 13th in the 200 meter dash, finishing in 23.65 seconds.
The Yellow Jackets 4x100 meter relay team was hindered by a zone violation.
For the Lady Jackets, Turner came in 14th in the long jump, jumping 15 feet, 2.5 inches.
