The Rockmart High School track and field team was scheduled to open the 2013 season on Thursday in a home meet. However, that event has been canceled according to head coach Adam Blalock.

Rockmart will now open the track season on Saturday, March 9 when they compete at Woodland High School. The first home meet will be on Thursday, March 14.

Blalock has said that the coaches are still learning about their athletes, and the weather has slowed down that evaluation process.

“We’ve had a decent start to our season,” Blalock said. “Training has been hindered often by the weather, so we’re off to a somewhat slow start. We are still learning about some of our athletes, to figure out what events they will compete in.”

Blalock is excited about the returning track and field members who have already proven themselves.

“I am optimistic about our returning starters,” Blalock said. “They have quickly taken on the leadership role for our team. We are anticipating our first meet to see how each athlete performs and to determine if we need to make any changes.”

Members of the team this season are Alvin Allen, Patrick Bonito, Mitchell Bozydaj, Morgan Bozydaj, Tyjuan Bryant, Audrey Campbell, Glavin Collier, Stephen Farnam, Brenton Farthing, Isaiah Fincher, Brittani Harings, Jordan Hawkins, Jayden Heck, Kreg Hollis, Zaria Holloman, Jaequann Holmes, Tarik Holmes, Spencer Huth, Hallie Keiser, Raveen Kent, Laney McClure, Erica Molohon, Matthew Moring, Tristan Morrow, Devon Philpot, Darius Pittman, Morgan Pruitt, Josh Redmond, Will Shurley, Kalli Smith, Bryan Smith, Dylan Smith, Jay Thompson, Shannon Thompson, Alex Tracy, Alison Turner, Nelani Turner, Tay Twine, Julian Welch, Tyler Weldon, LaJuan Wiggins, Jordan Wilson, and Jillian Witt.
