The Rockmart High School Yellow Jackets tennis team has played games in cold and windy weather and at times with lightning in the area. On Monday, they added snow to the list.

Playing with snow falling, the Yellow Jackets completed a undefeated season in Region 4-AAA by blowing past Chapel Hill 5-0. The win gave the Yellow Jackets the Region 4-AAA regular season championship, the No. 1 seed for the upcoming region tournament and an automatic berth into the Class AAA state tournament.

“All I can say about my team is that I am blessed to have such a great group of kids,” Brooks said. “And I hope to see them continue their success.”

Matt Giudice won at No. 1 singles for Rockmart 6-0, 6-2.

“He has been so sharp this year, and he is gaining the confidence he needs to play at the next level,” head coach Wayne Brooks said.

At No. 2 singles, Mason Barnette won 6-0, 6-1.

“He clearly outmatched his opponent and he took the opportunity to become extremely aggressive in his play to prepare for the state tournament,” Brooks said.

Tristan Adams won at No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 1 doubles, Steven Dean and Tyler Baulding-Woods won 8-3.

“This was the most competitive and entertaining match of the day,” Brooks said. “Their opponents were very good.”

Chapel Hill forfeited the No. 2 doubles match, giving Jonathan Badon and Tyler Black an easy victory.

Rockmart will now take time off for spring break before returning to the courts on Tuesday, April 9 at Sonoraville for a non-region match. Rockmart will then end the regular season in Cartersville on Thursday, April 11 against Excel Christian at Dellinger Park.

The Region 4-AAA tournament will be held April 16-17.
