The Rockmart Lady Jackets (26-6), the No. 3 seed from Region 4-AAA, had little trouble with Jackson (17-13), the No. 2 seed from Region 2-AAA, in the first round of the Class AAA state playoffs Wednesday.

Rockmart won game one 5-0 before winning the nightcap 5-2 to sweep the best-of-three series in two games.

“We are very excited,” head coach Steve Luke said. “This is good for our girls, to win a state playoff series and advance to the Sweet 16.”

Playing in front of an electric crowd, the Lady Jackets received two dominating pitching performances.

In game one, Jazzmyne Patrick pitched a complete game one-hitter. In game two, Kalli Smith pitched a complete game one-hitter as well.

Offensively, Cassidy Faulk went 2-for-4 with a double in the first game. Baylee Williams went 2-for-4 with a double, Jana Cannon went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and Rebecca Argo went 1-for-2.

In the second game, Smith went 2-for-3 with a double and Morgan Thompson went 3-for-3 with three RBIs.

“Only three teams in our program history have made it to Columbus and that’s our goal this year, to advance to Columbus,” Luke said.
