With the first two games of the Region 7-AAAA basketball set to be played on Saturday at Dalton High School, the standings for the “B” subregion have finally been sorted out.

The Northwest Whitfield girls downed Heritage on Thursday night, putting them in a tie with Dalton for the No. 1 spot. Northwest later won a coin flip and will be the No. 1 seed from the subregion while the Dalton will be the No. 2.

Tiebreakers were also needed for the next two spots. As a result, Southeast Whitfield will be the subregion’s No. 3 seed while Heritage dropped to No. 4.

LaFayette and Ridgeland were locked in as the No. 5 and No. 6 seeds, respectively. Those two teams will face off in a play-in game at 3 p.m. on Saturday for the right to move on in the tournament.

The boys’ subregion standings fell into place without the need for coin flips. Northwest, who went unbeaten in the subregion, will be the No. 1 seed, followed by Dalton, Heritage, Ridgeland, LaFayette, and Southeast.

LaFayette and Southeast will meet at 4:30 p.m. at Dalton High School on Saturday in a play-in game.

Standings in the “A” subregion will be decided after the final subregion games are completed Friday night. Pickens and River Ridge’s girls still have a shot at No. 1 seeds, while the Gilmer boys will likely be the No. 1 seed from their subregion.

Tournament play will begin with four games on Monday, starting at 4 p.m.
