The Ridgeland Panthers finally broke through with their first subregion victory of the season at Southeast Whitfield on Tuesday night, holding off the Raiders, 57-47.

Southeast (3-16, 2-4) led 19-16 in the second quarter, but Ridgeland guard Jalen Smith erupted for seven straight points in less than 30 seconds to give the Panthers the lead for good.

Ridgeland (5-13, 1-5) carried a 29-24 advantage into the locker room and stretched it out in the second half.

Smith finished with 23 points, while Keyshawn Forston and Stefon Jackson each added 12 in the win. Fortson also cleaned up on the boards with 16 rebounds.

The news was not as good for the Lady Panthers (2-16, 0-6), who stayed winless in 7-AAAA subregion play with a 53-20 loss.

Katy Phillips had six points for Ridgeland. Megan Collins paced the Lady Raiders (13-6, 5-1) with 16.

Ridgeland will be in action at Dalton on Friday.
