The Ridgeland Panthers got a two-run home run from Daniel Johnson on Thursday, but it would not be enough as the Black-and-White saw Senior Night spoiled by the visiting Southeast Whitfield Raiders, 10-8.
Isaac Martenn was 2 for 3 for Ridgeland in the loss. Tyler Hisey added a two-run single and Tray Hill collected a double. Jacob McNabb was saddled with the loss on the mound.
Ridgeland (5-15, 0-14) will try to avoid the sweep when they play at Southeast on Monday. The game was originally scheduled for Friday, but was postponed by rain.
Harden also announced that Johnson had been awarded with the Jay Smith Scholarship for the 2013 season. The award is named for the former Ridgeland head baseball coach.
Johnson, an honor student in the Ridgeland Senior Honors Program, was a national finalist for this year's Wendy's High School Heisman Award.
