The Rockmart tennis teams pulled off an early-season sweep Wednesday as both teams beat Pepperell at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry.

The Rockmart boys took a narrow 3-2 victory against Pepperell, relying mostly on its doubles teams. The duo of Bennett Vest and Austyn Shelton won 6-1 6-0, while the No. 2 team of Hunter England and Russell Head won 6-1, 6-3.

Rockmart’s No. 3 singles player Jackson Norris sealed the win with a 6-0, 6-3 match win. Meanwhile, Pepperell’s No. 1 singles player Donovan Rochester won 7-6, 6-2 and its No. 2 singles player Jordan Purser won 6-2, 6-1.

On the girls’ side, Rockmart pulled out a 4-1 victory beginning with No. 1 singles player Emma Evans winning her match 7-6, 6-2. The Lady Jackets’ No. 2 singles player Mary Ella Owens won 6-3, 6-1 and No. 3 singles player Taylor McVey won 6-0, 6-2.

For doubles, Pepperell girls got their lone match win as the team of Ragan Ware and Allie Williams won 6-1, 6-2. The Rockmart No. 2 doubles team of Phoenix England and Anna Smith won 6-0, 7-6.
