The opening round of the Class AAAA tennis tournament for the LaFayette Lady Ramblers came to a quick and abrupt end on Tuesday as they were shut out at powerhouse Marist.
Madeline Ensley suffered her first and only loss of the season as she lost to Kelsey Williams, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles. Laura Beth Pettigrew was beaten by Marielle Williams, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles, and Jessica McDaniels fell to Jenna Kane, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
The team of Tori Hunter and Abbey Hannah lost the first set to Lauren McMurray and Elizabeth Gould, 6-1, and were trailing 1-0 in the second set when the match was halted. The teams of Breianna Maggard and Evie Waters did not get their match started due to Marist having just four courts available.
LaFayette finished with a season record of 10-6.
Marist's girls have captured 21 state team titles since 1980, including 15 of the last 18.
