SOFTBALL: Northwest scores late to take down LaFayette

After an 11-game winning streak to start the softball season, the LaFayette Lady Ramblers are now in the midst of another streak, one they want no part of.

Following an 8-3 home loss to Ridgeland on Tuesday, the Lady Ramblers (11-2, 0-2) dropped their second game in a row, this time to defending state champion Northwest Whitfield, who pulled away late on Thursday for a 7-2 win in Tunnel Hill.

Both teams scored twice in the first inning and the score would stay deadlocked until the fifth when the Lady Bruins (9-0, 2-0) picked up a solo run to take the lead in the Region 7-AAAA contest.

Northwest blew the game open in the bottom of the sixth, scoring four times before shutting LaFayette down in the top of the seventh.

Victoria Day suffered her first loss of the season in the circle. Day threw 5 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits and four runs, all earned. She walked two batters and struck out one. Savanna Reeves relieved Day in the sixth, but gave up three earned runs on three hits in just 2/3 of an inning.

Cassie Phillips went 2-for-3 at the plate for LaFayette, while E.J. Ratledge, Summer Goins, and Shayla Ludy had one hit each. Ratledge and Carllie Campbell each drove in a run.

LaFayette will host Chattooga in a non-region game at 12 noon on Saturday.
