The Heritage Generals baseball team defeated River Ridge, 4-2, on Friday, April 26 to earn the No. 3 seed from Region 7-AAAA heading into the Georgia Class AAAA State Playoffs.

The Generals swept Cedartown, 4-3 and 5-1, the previous night to advance to the state playoffs.

Heritage will now travel to Stone Mountain on Friday, May 3 to play Redan in a best two-of-three series.

Heritage head coach Eric Beagles said his team came to the field with the right attitude every game last week.

“We had a really good week of practice, got a lot of things done and I think it really bled over,” he said. “They were very focused.”

Austin Morris continued to swing a hot bat. Morris highlighted a four-run, fifth-inning rally against River Ridge with a two-RBI single. It was the Generals’ only hit of the day.

Morris had a bases-loaded, game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh in the 4-3 victory over Cedartown.

In addition, Morris was the winning pitcher on Thursday against Cedartown and had a two-run double in the second game of the day.

Leadoff hitter Noah Hill had an RBI against River Ridge, while the other run scored on an error. It was one of three errors River Ridge committed.

River Ridge, which batted out of order early in the game, scored its first run in the top of the fourth inning.

Later in the game, River Ridge missed an opportunity to score when a runner missed home plate and was called out.

The visitors scored their final run in the top of the seventh inning.

Blake Hamilton pitched a complete game and scattered seven hits to record the win.
