After losing their first four games of the season, the Georgia School for the Deaf Tigers won the second straight game Saturday in Wilson, N.C.
The Tigers (2-4) defeated North Carolina School for the Deaf, 20-16.
“They all stepped it up and played their part,” said GSD head coach Erik Whitworth. “They wanted to win and they went out there and played their hearts out.”
The Tigers’ defense had to hold on in the final seconds of the game when the offense fumbled the ball with :30 left to play in the game.
“We tried our best to make it interesting,” said Whitworth.
Jonathan Petersen had 79 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries for the Tigers. Joshua McTaggart had 99 yards on nine carries and two touchdowns.
Offensive linemen Mari Windhom, Trey Flancher and Rakeem Johnson were key in getting the Tigers’ offense moving against NCSD.
The Tigers travel to Mississippi School for the Deaf next Saturday.
