Georgia School for the Deaf struggled in the first half of Saturday’s season opener on the road against Tennessee School for the Deaf, but head coach Erik Whitworth saw positives in the second half.
The Tigers lost, 54-0.
However, 46 of those points were given up in the first half.
“I told them, ‘the second half is 0-0,’” said Whitworth. “They stepped up and played really good. Everything we did in the second half was a little bit better.”
Josh McTaggart and Rakeem Johnson were strong performers on defense, while quarterback Jonathan Petersen and tight end David Martinez led the offense.
The Tiger have a short week ahead of them.
They will travel to Shallow Hills Christian in Kennesaw on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
