The Gordon Lee Lady Trojan tennis team continued their late-season surge on Thursday with a 4-1 home win over Trion.
Trion took a 1-0 lead at No. 1 singles as Samantha Hughes outlasted Madison Hilley in three sets, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4, but the No. 1 team of Tori McElhaney and Sara Clayton would tie up the match for Gordon Lee as they beat Kristyn Martin and Maddie Jenkins, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
Katie Barger's 6-1, 7-5 win over Dixie Bethune at No. 2 singles put the Lady Trojans in the lead for good, and the Navy-and-White would clinch the match at No. 2 doubles as Sara Holcomb and Katherine Chambers rallied past Taylor Wesson and Autie Abernathy, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Bonnie Hankins finished things off with a 6-3, 6-2 over Kaylee Jones at No. 3 singles.
Gordon Lee improved to 5-6 overall with the win.
On the boys' side, the Bulldogs dropped just one match in a 4-1 win.
Payton Payne and Casey Tudor opened the match with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Logan Davis and Chandler Steele at No. 2 doubles, while Callan Hamby made it 2-0 with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Joseph Looney at No. 1 singles.
Jonathan Bettis got the Trojans a point at No. 2 singles, beating Alec Jarauld.6-3, 6-0. But Jonathan Chance and Isaac Thomas stopped Kalen Bradley and Brayden Born, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 2 doubles before No. 3 singles player Bobby Jones capped the win with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Caleb O'Neal.
The Trojans fell to 2-9 overall with the loss.
