The Excel Christian Eagles boys' tennis team won a third-set tiebreaker in the day's final match and beat the Gordon Lee Trojans, 3-2, in a Wednesday afternoon match in Chickamauga.

Cade Archer beat Joseph Looney at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2, to earn the first point for Excel, but the Trojans No. 2 doubles team of Logan Davis and Chandler Steele picked up a 6-4, 5-7, 10-3 win over Michael Ferris and Tyler Demers to tie the match.

Gordon Lee took a 2-1 lead when the team of Kalen Bradley and Brayden Born won 7-6, 6-4 over Vince DaCamera and John Berry at No. 1 doubles, but with Excel receiving a forfeit at No. 3 singles, the No. 2 singles match would decide the outcome.

Sam Kirkland won the opening set, 6-3, but Jonathan Bettis rallied for the Trojans to win the second set, 6-4. The third set would go to 6-6 before Kirkland won the tiebreaker, 7-5, to pick up the winning point.

Gordon Lee is now 1-6 on the season.

On the girls' side, the Lady Trojans were shut out 5-0 by the Lady Eagles to fall to 2-5 overall on the year.

Moriah Hibbard beat Madison Hilley, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles. Miriam Hibbard picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win over Katie Barger at No. 2 singles, and Calloway Ford won at No. 3 singles, beating Bonnie Hankins, 6-1, 6-2.

The team of Taylor Vaughan and Caroline Moore beat Sara Clayton and Katherine Chambers at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 6-3, while Terra Thornbrough and Abbey Keefe stopped Tori McElhaney and Sara Holcomb at No. 2 doubles, 6-4, 6-3.

Gordon Lee is scheduled to play at Chattooga on Friday.
