BASKETBALL: Gordon Lee girls to host Greenville on Friday

As expected, the Gordon Lee Lady Trojans will be the No. 6 seed when the Class A girls' public school state basketball tournament tips off this weekend around the Peach State.

Gordon Lee (21-7) will be at home for the first round of the 16-team tournament when they host the No. 11 seed Greenville Patriots (18-8) of Region 4A-A.

The game will tip off at 6 p.m. this Friday. 

Should the Lady Trojans win, they would either travel to Region 4-A champion Marion County, the tournament's No. 3 seed, or host No. 14 Seminole County in the second round on Tuesday, Feb. 26.

The semifinals will be played at Fort Valley State University on Friday, March 1 at 4 p.m., while the final will be held at the Macon Centreplex on Thursday, March 7 at 3 p.m.

Randolph-Clay is the overall No. 1 seed, while Towns County is the No. 2 seed and on Gordon Lee's side of the bracket.

Four teams from Region 6-A are in the girls' private school field. No. 3 seed St. Francis, the Region 6-A champion, will face Strong Rock Christian. No. 4 seed Southwest Atlanta Christian will host Greenforest Christian. No. 6 seed Darlington will host Providence Christian, and No. 9 seed Mt. Paran Christian will play at Atlanta International.

Holy Innocents' is the overall No. 1 seed.

Also as expected, the Gordon Lee boys did not make the public school tournament.

Region 1-A had five teams make the field, including overall No. 1 seed Seminole County. There are two teams from Region 2-A, three teams from Region 3-A, four teams from Region 4-A, and one team, Wilkinson County, from Region 7-A.

Six teams from Region 6-A will be in the private school tournament, including region champion St. Francis, the No. 2 seed, who will host Pace Academy in round one.

No. 5 seed North Cobb Christian will host No. 12 seed Mt. Paran Christian in a first-round game. No. 6 seed Excel Christian will host Holy Innocents'. No. 10 seed Whitefield Academy will play at W.D. Mohammed, and No. 13 seed Mt. Pisgah Christian will have to travel to Athens Christian in the first round.

Greenforest Christian is the Overall top seed.
