Sophomore Conard Broom struck out 11 batters and just missed a perfect game on Friday as the Gordon Lee Trojans blanked visiting Mt. Pisgah, 5-0, for their sixth consecutive win.
Broom pitched all seven innings, allowing no hits and no walks. The Patriots had just one runner on base all game long, that one coming on a Gordon Lee error.
The Trojans (11-1, 5-1) got the only run they would need in the bottom of the first inning, and blew the game open with a four-spot in the fifth.
Connor Coakley was 2 for 3 with two runs scored, while Jake Rogers and Bryce Bailey each had a double and an RBI. Adam Vandiver was 2 for 4, while Branton Phillips and Tanner Sexton each picked up an RBI.
Gordon Lee is scheduled to play at Walker on Monday before returning home to face Whitefield Academy on Tuesday. They will close out the week with a game at Fellowship Christian on Thursday.
