GIRLS TENNIS: Pace Academy 3, Darlington 1

The Lady Tigers’ tennis season ended with their second-round state-tourney loss to Pace Academy.

One highlight, however, was Lady Tiger Maria Barragan completing an undefeated season in her individual sets.

She notched Darlington’s lone set win at No. 1 singles by downing her opponent, 6-2, 6-2.

Pace won two doubles matches and a singles match to grab the victory.

“They just overpowered our doubles,” said Darlington coach Gregg Marshall.

“To make it this far, we were very happy, but we definitely wanted to beat Pace.”

The Lady Tigers finished their season with a 5-6 overall record and notched the No. 2 seed in their area before starting state-tourney action.

“The girls played great, and overall it was a very, very successful season. We went much further than we anticipated, and the girls play incredibly well.”
