The Cedartown Bulldogs baseball team entered this week in first place in Region 7-AAAA, sub-region ‘A’ and controlled their own destiny when it came to winning the sub-region.
After two heartbreaking defeats to Cass this week, the Bulldogs no longer control their own destiny.
Cedartown fell to Cass at home on Tuesday 7-1 in an emotional contest. The Bulldogs were suppose to play Cass at home again on Friday for Senior Night. However, with bad weather forecast for Friday, the two teams made a last minute scheduling change and played the contest on Wednesday.
The change in dates didn’t help the Bulldogs, as they lost to the Colonels 13-2 in six innings.
“We got it handed to us,” head coach Shane Williams said.
Cedartown, which made 10 errors in Tuesday’s game, committed eight errors on Wednesday.
The game was the last regular season home game for three seniors – Blake Oxenreider, Cody Mesta and Jimmy Hand.
With the defeat, the Bulldogs fell to 14-7 overall and 6-5 in the sub-region. Cass has now moved into first place in the sub-region with a 7-4 record (14-8 overall).
Williams noted that the seeding the Bulldogs will now get for next week’s Region 7-AAAA tournament play-in games will depend on hair they fair against the Colonels on Thursday and how the River Ridge (6-13, 5-5) and Pickens (10-10, 4-6) series turns out.
