Bryant Mathis represented Calhoun High School at the Class A through AAAAA GHSA Swim Meet on February 8-9 at the Georgia Tech Olympic Natatorium in Atlanta.

Mathis, a sophomore, competed in the 100 yard breaststroke, winning the consolation final and finishing ninth overall, but with the sixth fastest time. His final’s time of 59.20 seconds qualified him for the USA Junior Nationals Swimming Championships in Orlando, Fla. to be held March 12-16.

Mathis is the first Calhoun High swimmer to advance to State Finals and National Competition and is currently ranked in the top 25 nationally in the 100 yard breaststroke in the 15 and under age group.

Mathis also swims locally with the Calhoun Blue Barracudas summer league team and year round with the Carpet Capital Aquatics Club in Dalton.

The Calhoun High boys team placed third in points among all swim teams from Northwest Georgia at the GHSA state meet behind state champion Dalton High and Heritage High (Catoosa). The Calhoun swim team is coached by Tom Griffith and Mike Beeler.
