Although the rain was enough to cancel recent prep sports in the Greater Rome area, Augusta offered plenty of sunshine to keep the local prep golf teams in play at sectionals Monday.
The Rome boys used a combined score of 326 to place seventh in the Class AAAAA sectionals.
Adam Davis was the low scorer for the Wolves with his score of 73.
Jordan Davis shot a 79, Matt Lattanzi had an 82 and Paul Armstrong shot 92. No teams were cut in the sectional, so Rome will advance to the state tourney in Tifton at the Spring Hill Country Club on May 20.
The Darlington boys team, however, saw their season end at their Class A sectional tournament on Monday.
The Tigers had a combined score of 336, but did not nab a top-four spot needed to qualify for state.
Vraj Patel led Darlington with a 79.
Josh Buttshaw had an 80, Ryan Haley shot an 85, and Alex Russell had a 92.
Also for Darlington, Will Mathis score a 93 and Daniel Morris had a 99.
The Armuchee girls team was scheduled to compete in Class AA sectionals in Waycross on Monday, GHSA cancelled the sectional tournament due to a low number of golfers. The Lady Indians will golf at state on May 20 in Vidalia at Hawk’s Point Golf Club.
Also competing at state will be the Armuchee boys team in Vidalia and the Darlington girls team in Savannah. Both teams received a bye to the tourney after placing first in their respective regions.
