Playing in their last road game of the regular season, the Cedartown Lady Bulldogs played perhaps their best game of the calendar year.
"This was our best game yet," head coach Johna Tidwell said. "The scoring we racked up tonight is the best we've seen in 14 games."
Cedartown scored 59 points Tuesday during their 68-59 Region 7-AAAA, sub-region 'A' loss to Pickens. However, the 59 points scored is the most the Lady Bulldogs have scored in a Region 7-AAAA, sub-region 'A' game this season. It is also the second most points they have scored in a game this year (the season high was 64 during a non-region win over Rockmart on Dec. 8)
Arkeria Boozer led Cedartown against Pickens with 16 points, Allie Gravitt added 14 and Morgan Gore had 10. Freshman point guard Lexy Barnett also drew the praise of her coach with her performance.
"Lexy stepped up as our floor general and played with confidence, distributing the ball on offense," Tidwell said.
Cedartown trailed 36-20 at halftime, but outscored Pickens 19-16 in the third quarter and 20-16 in the fourth quarter.
"Simply, we got better," Tidwell said. "We played stronger and we showed the potential we've been seeing in practices all year."
The first year head coach was proud of her team's performance against the Dragonettes.
"It's been a tough year for these girls," Tidwell said. "They have had to find their identity in a new region while trying to break old habits and adopt a new mentality. It's been tough, but with the improvement they exhibited tonight, I think any one of them will tell you it's been worth it. Tonight was a moral victory for us and we are absolutely proud of their effort."
The Lady Bulldogs (2-20 overall, 0-7 sub-region) close out the regular season on Friday, hosting Gilmer for Senior Night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
