The Rockmart High School soccer teams moved their game against Model up 24 hours to try and avoid the bad weather that was moving into the area.
Turns out, Rockmart still wasn’t able to completely avoid it.
The Lady Jackets got their game in against Model, losing 6-0, but the Yellow Jackets didn’t get to play the Blue Devils because lightning moved into the area and forced a postponement.
In the first game, the Lady Jackets played Model closer than the score indicates, according to head coach Krista Crawford.
“We fought hard, but we lost,” Crawford said. “The girls played hard and defended very well during the first half. Model scored one goal and we had an opportunity to strike back. Morgan Bozydaj took a shot and made it, but the referee’s called her offside.”
The Lady Jackets had entered the Model contest fresh off a 2-1 win over Bremen on Tuesday.
“This was an awesome game, and the girls fought hard to win,” Crawford said.
Sophomore Brittani Harings scored the girst goal for Rockmart on an assistant from sophomore Jayden Heck.
“Jayden shot on goal, but the goal keeper deflected the ball,” Crawford said. “Brittani finished the shot by sliding with the ball into the goal.”
Freshman Kaitlyn Bradfield scored the second goal.
“Kaitlyn dribbled the ball from the center of the field and had a one-on-one shootout with the keeper,” Crawford said. “The ball was blocked at first, but with persistence Kaitlyn completed her drive.”
Rockmart will play again Tuesday, at home against Jackson-Atlanta in a pair of Region 4-AAA games.
