The state playoff chances of the Gordon Lee Trojans may have taken a major hit on Tuesday when the Navy-and-White were upset by Fellowship Christian, 45-41, in the opening round of the Region 6-A tournament in Kennesaw.
Gordon Lee (14-12) trailed 22-21 at halftime, but could not make up the ground in the second half.
Hunter Bryant had 19 points for the Paladins, while Roger Rickman added 14.
Daniel Brooks and Cody Wilson paced the Trojans with 18 and 14 points, respectively. Gordon Lee was without the services of Samuel Welsh for most of the night. Welsh injured his back during practice on Monday, and had to come out of the game after playing just two minutes.
Gordon Lee was 17th in the Class A public school power rankings as of Tuesday night, just 0.12 points out of the 16th and final state playoff spot. The final power ranking numbers will be released next Tuesday with the state tournament brackets set to be released by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20.
Should the Trojans finish 16th, they would likely have to travel to Wilkinson County, who is currently ranked No. 1. The Warriors hosted the Trojans in a state playoff game last season, winning 98-37.
