BOYS BASKETBALL: Eagles, Jackets to meet in key region matchup

A big rematch between Coosa and Calhoun highlights tonight’s boys basketball action as both teams look to grab a solid hold on the number-two spot in Region 7-AA.

Coosa (10-5, 5-2) travels to Calhoun (12-1, 6-1) in a battle between the second and third-place teams in the region.

The last time the two teams met, Calhoun escaped Coosa with an 80-74 win.

Calhoun’s only region loss this season has been to Dade County.

Model (12-1, 7-0) hits the road to Chattooga (5-9, 3-3), hoping to keep its region record spotless.

The Blue Devils will face Calhoun on Saturday and then again on Tuesday as well in two games that could have big implications on which team wins the regular season region title.

Armuchee (5-10, 3-5) travels to play Pepperell (6-7, 3-4) with both teams looking to move to the middle of the region pack with a win.

The Indians won the last meeting between the teams, 56-48.

In Region 5-AAAAA, Rome (7-6, 2-3) tries to get back to .500 in the region, visiting East Paulding (1-13, 0-7) tonight.

The Wolves sit in the middle of the region standings.

In Region 6-A, Trion (10-2, 3-0), fresh off a win Tuesday night against Darlington, puts its perfect region record on the line when it travels to play Excel Christian (3-9, 1-2). The Bulldogs currently rank No. 4 in the Class A Public School Power Rankings.

Darlington (7-4, 1-1) travels to play Southwest Atlanta Christian (2-11, 2-1) looking to get back on the winning track after Tuesday’s loss to Trion.

In Region 4-AAA, Rockmart (5-6, 2-1) faces Central Carroll (1-1) at home.

In Region 5-AAA, Sonoraville (5-8, 2-2) travels to Adairsville (6-5, 2-2) with each team aiming to get over the .500 mark in the region.

Gordon Central (0-4) travels to play North Murray (2-2) looking for their first win of the season.
