The Rockmart High School basketball teams are gearing up for an important week this week.

Rockmart will play three home games this week, hosting Central-Carroll on Tuesday and South Paulding on Saturday. According to Gasports.com, the Lady Jackets will play Coretta Scott King on Friday while the Yellow Jackets will tangle with the B.E.S.T Academy.

After this week, Rockmart will play three away games, wrapping up the regular season on Feb. 9. Rockmart will then compete in the Region 4-AAA tournament for a chance at a Class AAA state playoff spot.

The Yellow Jackets (7-11 overall, 4-5 region) enter this week in fifth place in the region, having won five out of their past eight games.

Rockmart lost to Jackson-Atlanta 75-68 on Tuesday, Jan. 22 for their second straight loss. However, the Yellow Jackets bounced back last Friday to blow out Haralson County 64-38 to snap their short losing skid and get back into the win column.

The Lady Jackets (2-16, 0-9) played one of their better games on Tuesday, Jan. 22 against Jackson-Atlanta. Scoring 27 points, their most points since a 34 point outing against Callaway on Jan. 18, the Lady Jackets stayed close with the Lady Jaguars before losing 36-27.

Last Friday, the Lady Jackets lost to Haralson County 48-18 for their 12th straight loss.

Tip-off for this Tuesday’s region game against Central-Carroll is 6 p.m. for the Lady Jackets and 7:30 p.m. for the Yellow Jackets.

On Friday, it will be Rockmart Recreation Department night at the basketball games. According to recreation director Jeff Hulsey, all Rockmart Recreation Department basketball players that wear their jerseys to the games will get in for free.

If a child doesn’t wear their recreation jersey, they must pay the admission price, according to recreation director Jeff Hulsey.

The Lady Jackets will play at 6 p.m. and the Yellow Jackets will play at 7:30 p.m.
