A team never really forgets a defeat, especially a one-point defeat.
So on Monday, the Rockmart High School Yellow Jackets were more than ready to square of with the B.E.S.T Academy in a rematch from a game they lost 43-42 on Jan. 25.
This time around, the Yellow Jackets were not going to take any chances in the fourth quarter as they built a solid lead en route to a convincing 51-30 win over the Eagles in a Region 4-AAA game on Monday. The game was played this week after the two squads were forced to postpone last week’s game due to the wintry weather that had schools cancel classes.
The upset win helps keep the Yellow Jackets in the midst of the pack as the Region 4-AAA tournament looms ahead.
The Yellow Jackets (9-13 overall, 4-7 region) are currently in fifth place out of the eight team region. They trail the Eagles by 3.5 games for the fourth seed.
Monday was also a good day for the Lady Jackets as they picked up their third win of the season, this time pulling out a nailbiter over Coretta Scott King, 47-45.
This was the second time the Lady Jackets (3-18, 2-9) have defeated the Lady Eagles this season. On Jan. 25, Rockmart won 61-33.
Both Rockmart teams are back in action on Tuesday, hosting Douglass in another pair of region games. The Lady Jackets play the Lady Astros (5-11, 4-6) at 6 p.m. and the Yellow Jackets host the Astros (15-4, 9-1) at 7:30 p.m.
On Wednesday, Rockmart will visit Central-Carroll for two more region games. Then on Friday, Rockmart will host Chapel Hill in the final regular season games of the year.
