The Pepperell pitching staff continues to compile some impressive numbers, especially in the strikeout category.
On Friday, Jesse Gregory tossed a two-hit shutout and finished with 11 strikeouts as the Dragons downed Rockmart, 4-0, in a non-region game in Lindale.
Gregory’s dominating effort was the latest in a long line of strong outings by the Dragons, who have also seen Tyler Smith produce double-digit strikeouts on a relatively routine basis this season.
“I thought Jesse did great on the mound for us tonight,” said Pepperell coach Wright Edge after the win.
“Our pitching performances have been great the past few games. We’re hitting the strike zone and our defense is playing really well.”
Offensively, Bryce Adams and Nick Williams drove in one run each, and Caleb Jackson had a pair of hits for the surging Dragons, who improved to 12-2 on the season.
“ It seems like our guys are just having fun,” said Edge, “and (they) have great attitudes through everything.”
Although Pepperell’s offense endured some tough luck, the Dragons came up with several clutch hits.
“It seemed like we had solid hits that just went straight to the Rockmart defense,” said Edge, “(but) we had a lot of good two-out hits that helped put runs on the scoreboard.”
Pepperell will host Calhoun in a key Region 7-AA contest on Tuesday.
