The Model baseball team wasted no time setting the tone for Tuesday’s win over Murray County.
The Devils put together a five-run rally in the first inning — and then matched it with five more runs in the second — on their way to posting a 10-0 victory over Murray County in Region 7-AA action in Shannon.
The game was ended by the run rule after the top of the fifth.
Model’s Matt Gordon went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Ryan Whittemore went 2-for-3 with four RBIs for the Devils.
Cole Oliver also had two hits and drove in a run for the Devils, who improved to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in the region.
“We came out and put the ball in play — and when you put the ball in play, good things happen,” said Model head coach Brett White.
The first inning was a perfect example of that, as the Devils were able to take advantage of multiple Murray County errors during the early rally.
“ Today was another game and you’ve got to come out and play them one at a time,” said White, “and today we came out on top.”
Model starting pitcher Drew Dempsey opened the game with two scoreless innings, finishing with four strikeouts and four walks.
The Devils will visit Dade County on Thursday for another 7-AA game.
